This is an authentic metal printing plate used to produce early Washington, D.C. city maps — likely from the 1910–1940 era, featuring neighborhoods such as Adams Morgan, Kalorama, Columbia Heights, Woodley Park, Rock Creek Park, and surrounding areas.
These plates were used in printing houses for newspapers, atlases, and public street guides. Most were melted down after use, making surviving examples extremely rare.
Key Features:
• Original engraved street grid
• Historic DC streetcar routes marked
• Rock Creek Park, Zoo area, Kalorama, Adams Morgan clearly visible
• Deep engraving detail — map maker quality
• Fantastic display piece for home, office, gallery, or collector wall
• Suitable for framing or leaving as-is with original patina
Authentic map plates almost never survive. This is a true piece of D.C. history, not a replica, not a reproduction, not a print. These plates were hand-etched & used for mapping the DC area.
